Length
Metroll supplies METLOK® 500 sheeting cut to order as required depending on load limit regulations set by the relevant local transport authority. Lengths to be manufactured need to be site measurements, not those taken off plans.
Handling of Material
When handling METLOK® 500, care should be taken at all times to preserve the quality of the finish. Packs should be kept dry and stored above ground on dunnage whilst on site. If sheets do become wet, these need to be separated, wiped and placed in the open air to dry.
Walking on Sheeting
When walking on METLOK® 500 roof sheeting always wear flat rubber soled shoes and walk only over areas where you have purlin or batten supports. The specified walking path on METLOK® 500 is either pan next to the lapped edge ribs.
Sheet Laying Sequence
Fix the first line of clips, locating so that the roof will be square. One clip is fitted to every support using the correct fastener, with arrows pointing in the direction of laying. Lay the first sheet with the correct overhang each end, the female and centre ribs go onto the clips and must be snapped home by pressing into the clips. Fix the second row of clips, placing the short leg over the male rib of sheet 1. For more detailed sheet laying instructions please contact your nearest Metroll office.
Preparation
Ensure that the tops of the purlins or battens are all in one plane by packing or easing between purlin and support.
Stop Ending
Turn the pans at the top of the sheets up 45° using a
turn-up tool.
Lipping
Turn the pans at the bottom of the sheets down at 30° using a turndown tool to prevent water running back along the underside of the sheet.
Cutting Roof Sheeting
When cutting METLOK® 500 sheeting please use a circular saw with a metal cutting blade. Prior to cutting COLORBOND® steel sheeting, place the coloured surface downward to lessen the likelihood of swarf being embedded in the exposed roof surface.
Fastening Sheets to Supports
METLOK® 500 may be crest fixed to timber or steel roofing or walling supports, or valley fixed to steel supports or timber walling supports. It is important to affix fasteners at less than 25mm from the ends of sheets.
Availability & Delivery
To protect material quality, ensure that you have made suitable personnel and crane arrangements to unload sheeting from trucks. You can avoid damage when lifting long lengths of sheeting by crane by evenly loading the sheets.
Clean Up
Prior to departing the work site please take care to remove all foreign debris, screws, rivets and especially any swarf from drilling or cutting from the roof surface or from inside the gutters. Failure to do this may result in premature corrosion of the roof or gutter system.
